- The NYU Global Idea Exchange connects NYU students around the world to collaborate on an unprecedented scale, resulting in a tangible manifestation of NYU’s global network. Over the course of the academic year, students will be engaged by a big challenge question about cities—a question that encourages an interdisciplinary approach and activates the NYU collective, working across time and distance, proving that ideas never sleep in the global network.
- As NYU is “In and of the city” and “in and of the world”, it is only appropriate that we begin with a challenge about cities: home and habitat to half of the world’s population. From idea capitals such as New York, Abu Dhabi, Shanghai, London, and Paris to the high–growth centers of Guangzhou, Karachi, Delhi, and Lagos, cities are the present and the future of humanity. Cities are the challenge and the opportunity.
- From October 1st–November 20th, students, guided by faculty and seminal thinkers, will form teams to explore the challenge question from diverse angles—sharing inspirations, thoughts, and responses via a custom social collaboration network powered by OpenIDEO's OI Engine. Selected teams will be invited to spend spring break in Shanghai, home to NYU’s newest campus, to continue to explore the challenge and bring their ideas to life.
