WE WONDERED What can 55,000 minds do when connected across the globe?

The NYU Global Idea Exchange connects NYU students around the world to collaborate on an unprecedented scale, resulting in a tangible manifestation of NYU’s global network. Over the course of the academic year, students will be engaged by a big challenge question about cities – a question that encourages an interdisciplinary approach and activates the NYU collective, working across time and distance, proving that ideas never sleep in the global network.

SOUNDS AWESOME! SO, HOW DOES IT WORK?

It starts withONE BIG QUESTION

We invite the student body collective (all 55,000 of you!) to bring your unique strengths and creative energies to a global challenge. Apply your diverse perspectives and work across disciplines, between schools, and geographies.

GET INSPIRED!

WE SHARE INSPIRATION, CONDUCT MISSIONS, AND GAIN INSIGHTS.

Faculty, experts, and seminal thinkers stimulate discourse and provide guidance. We share existing stories, tools, case studies, and examples. These inspirations animate a collective understanding around the challenge to inspire deeper thinking and new opportunities.

IDEATE!

WE COLLABORATE ON A GLOBAL SCALE TO GENERATE AMAZING IDEAS.

Interdisciplinary, interscholastic, and international teamwork is highly encouraged. Post solutions on the challenge site by building on each other’s ideas.

phace 3

APPLAUD!

WE APPLAUD CONCEPTS AND SELECT WINNING TEAMS.

The best ideas rise to the top based on applause. The ideas will ultimately be judged by a panel of experts based on evaluation criteria and peer feedback. At the end of the evaluation phase, several teams will be invited to Shanghai.

CREATE!

WE REFINE AND EVOLVE IDEAS FOR ONE INTENSE WEEK IN SHANGHAI.

Selected teams will be invited to spend spring break in Shanghai further exploring the challenge and bringing their ideas to life with support from NYU professors, domain experts, and designers from IDEO.
